Taranaki Cathedral offers a variety of rooms and spaces for hire. Our historic site is centrally located in New Plymouth, with wheelchair accessibility and its own designated parking. We offer a place of hospitality for groups large and small.

Advanced bookings are essential. Please carefully read through the options before completing the booking form.
Discount may be available on request for Charities and Not for Profits. All fees are subject to review & change.


THE VICARAGE

Formally home to many of the Ministers at Taranaki Cathedral, The Vicarage is now beautifully renovated and home to Te Manu Hononga - Sir Paul Reeves Centre, offering a conference room, board room and large dining room for hire.

 

VICARAGE WHAREKAI - Dining Room with Commercial Kitchen

Accommodates up to 120 (standing / casual dining), 60 (buffet dining), or 90 (seated/served dining).

Amenities include a large fridge, gas stovetop, oven, instant hot water, coffee makers & steriliser. Dishes, serveware & tablecloths are available on request. For full-day bookings reserved parking is available.

The wharekai is usually a shared space for those on site. The fee below is for groups who require exclusive use of this area, and is only available for bookings at select times.

HALF DAY: $600 +GST  (available 5-10pm only) 
FULL DAY: $1000 +GST (only available Saturday & Sundays for full day bookings) 

$200 deposit is required to secure your booking.
Set-up & cleanup must be done within your paid booking time.

 

KĀHU CONFERENCE ROOM - seats 25

The Kāhu room is located on the first floor of the vicarage, with access via stairs or lift.

Accommodates up to 25. We charge two rates depending on the size of the group because of the impact of larger groups on our shared spaces.

Amenities include chairs, tables, whiteboard, TV, WiFi, and a shared kitchenette (available for self-catered hot drinks, but no meal prep please).

We ask that all guests use the wharekai dining area downstairs for tea breaks and meals, the shared use of this space is included with your booking. We work with a number of great local caterers and can put you in touch with their services if required.

Set-up & cleanup must be done within your paid booking time.

KŌTUKU BOARD ROOM - seats 12

The Kōtuku Board Room is located on the first floor of the Vicarage, with access via stairs or lift.

Accommodates up to 12.

Amenities include a large meeting table, chairs, whiteboard, WiFi and a TV may be available on request. Right out the door is a shared kitchenette, available for self-catered hot drinks (but no meal prep please).

We ask that all guests use the wharekai dining area downstairs for tea breaks and meals, the shared use of this space is included with your booking. We work with a number of great local caterers and can put you in touch with their services if required.

Set-up & cleanup must be done within your paid booking time.

The Kōtuku Room is used as a shared office space during the week, so is generally only available for hire on weekdays after 5pm and on weekends.

TE WHARE HONONGA

Purpose-built for kaupapa Māori, reconciliation events and training.

Bookings only need to be made for groups requiring private use of Te Whare Hononga.

Amenities include seating for 120, kitchenette, toilet, Wifi, large TV, & four exhibition screens with local history. Tables & whiteboard available on request.

For full-day bookings reserved parking is available.

Also included in the booking is the shared use of the wharekai dining area next door in the Vicarage. We ask that all guests use the wharekai for tea breaks and meals, however, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks can be brought into Te Whare Hononga in small amounts.

PLEASE NOTE: We only take private bookings for Te Whare Hononga that are aligned to its purpose of education & reconciliation and for kaupapa Māori events. Te Whare Hononga is an expression of partnership between Ngāti Te Whiti and St. Mary’s. All bookings are subject to cancellation if the space is needed for a special Iwi event. In the rare event that a booking is canceled, every effort will be made to find an alternative venue at Taranaki Cathedral.

PEACE HALL & LOUNGE

PEACE HALL - seats 150

LARGE EVENT OR CONCERT

Located at 44 Vivian Street, New Plymouth - across the street from the main Taranaki Cathedral site.

If you're looking for a hint of ‘old town hall’ nostalgia, The Peace Hall is the place for you! Perfect for concerts, rustic weddings, and anything in-between.

Amenities include 150 chairs, stage, kitchen, lounge, toilets & plenty of street parking plus reserved parking for 20. Tables are available on request. If you wish to use the small kitchen for more than small prep we advise viewing first as kitchenware is limited. Set-up and pack-down fees are set based on the need.

FULL DAY: $500 + GST
$200 deposit is required to secure this booking.

 

PEACE LOUNGE - seats 75

SMALL GATHERINGS

Located at 44 Vivian Street, New Plymouth - next to the Op-Shop, across the street from the main Taranaki Cathedral site.

A friendly space with lots of natural light.

Amenities include 75 chairs, a kitchen, toilets (in the hall next door) & plenty of street parking plus reserved parking for 20. Tables are available on request. If you wish to use the small kitchen for more than small prep we advise viewing first as kitchenware is limited. Set-up and pack-down fees are set based on the need.
