The cathedral has a pastoral care team of people, headed by Canon Pastor Bill Marsh, who have special empathy with anyone going through difficult periods in their life or facing challenges because of illness or bereavement.
Revd. Ailsa Claridge was appointed as Pastoral Minister in early 2016.
People do not have to be on the cathedral roll to access this service and confidentiality is seen as an important and essential component of this work.
Visits are not restricted to homes or hospital. Some people prefer to meet at one of the rooms available at the cathedral or off site, such as sitting by the sea and chatting over a cup of coffee.
Team co-ordinator, Linda Rountree says pastoral care involves 'being there' for people who need to have a conversation about their lives. “That could be something current, such as cancer or other illness, or it could be a death that happened 20 years ago”
“Pastoral care is to love people - and compassion and empathy are key ingredients,” she says.
