Event Summary

Following its success over the past four years, the Music Innovation Trust of Taranaki, in association with the Taranaki Committee of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation and the TSB Community Trust, are very pleased to present TPAC 2018; the 2018 Taranaki Performing Arts Conference for school students who are passionate about the performing arts.

Once again, this will be the chance for like-minded students throughout the province to come together in one place and be offered expert tuition in a variety of performing arts disciplines, with the goal of enhancing the learning of the performing arts. TPAC 2018 will continue the good work of previous years giving a wonderful setting for students to meet new people, learn new techniques and have a lot of fun doing so!

TPAC 2018 will take place during the second week of the Term 2 holiday period, from Monday 16 July to Wednesday 18 July at Sacred Heart Girls’ College (SHGC), New Plymouth.

Some of the workshops on offer during TPAC 2018 are:

  • A 3-day Making Theatre workshop with TV and film star Holly Shanahan;
  • An intensive 3-day Acting workshop with Outrageous Fortune star Antonia Prebble;
  • Voice production and singing skills workshops with singer Alyssa Poole;
  • a variety of Piano workshops with New Zealand School of Music lecturer Dr Jian Liu;
  • how to deal with Performance Anxiety with Dr Lewis McGill;
  • the importance of Posture in Performance with Dr Lewis McGill;
  • a String Ensemble workshop with Brazilian born violinist Wellington Silva;
  • a Jazz Ensemble workshop with our very own Stewart Maunder;
  • a Tap Dance for Beginners workshops with Mary Poppins assistant choreographer Kate Lahood; and
  • NCEA Music workshops with Christopher Luke.

I’m sure you would agree we have some fabulous tutors from within and outside Taranaki assisting us this year; experienced performers who are highly trained, nationally and internationally recognised and respected. They are very passionate about passing on their knowledge to the future performing artists of New Zealand.

But apart from these amazing tutors, do you know what the best thing is about TPAC 2018? The price to attend. Each 90-minute session will only cost you $10.00! And morning and afternoon tea is thrown in absolutely free. And if you’re around for the whole day attending many of the sessions on offer, lunch will only cost you $5.00! This has to be the best price in town!
