St Mary’s set to feature on Prime TV’s Artefact series
Earlier this year our Cathedral and several key members of the Project team were involved with an episode for the new season of Artefact – a wonderful New Zealand series featuring Dame Professor Anne Salmond. It focuses on artefacts and taonga at the heart of pivotal moments of our history. The episode is set to screen on Prime TV on Tuesday 22nd of September at 7.30pm.
We are planning (alert levels willing) to host a watch party so we can gather as a community with Ngāti Te Whiti, watch the episode and have a korero. We will be in touch very shortly with a date for this (it may be on a different night to the broadcast so we can watch it OnDemand and avoid the ads). Stay tuned.
Construction On Hold
As you will know, a Taranaki Cathedral neighbour has challenged the process by which NPDC granted our Resource Consent to move the Vicarage, build Te Whare Hononga and develop a carpark onsite.
Because of this, a Judicial Review is being undertaken. We remain fully committed to our important project (see below) but while the review process is happening, all development work onsite has been suspended. We don’t know exact time frames, but it’s unlikely anything will happen on site for the rest of this year.
Vicarage Safe & Secure
While we press pause during the review, we have made sure that the Vicarage is safe and secure and well protected from the weather.
Project Moving Ahead Despite Legal Delays
While physical onsite development may be on hold, the Project most certainly isn’t. Jay and his team continue to develop the kaupapa that will underscore the Project’s mahi. Story Inc have collated the ideas and opinions our community expressed in their recent workshop and survey. They are reporting back to the Governance Board this week so expect to hear more on this in the next newsletter. We are also developing new marketing and public fundraising campaigns to keep the Project – including the earthquake strengthening and reopening of St Mary’s – top of mind. You may not currently see things happening – but rest assured many wheels are in motion!
Have you got a question for the team?
If you have a question (or some encouraging feedback!) please get in touch – it’s always great to hear from you and be reminded of the huge amount of public and Parish support we have behind us.
Ngā mihi
Jenny and the Project Governance Board
