The new Dean of the Taranaki Cathedral Church of St Mary, the Very Revd Peter Beck, was
installed in the role at a ceremony in New Plymouth on Saturday, April 26, 2016.
Dean Peter is a former Dean of Christchurch Cathedral, having resigned in 2011 after nearly 10
years in the job. He has filled the Taranaki role left by former Dean Jamie Allen.
The installation service was held in the Interim Cathedral, across the road from the historic cathedral building which is closed and awaiting earthquake strengthening.
Congregation members said afterwards the service had been inspiring, with a beautiful
atmosphere. Among those attending was a delegation from Christchurch including the current Dean of Christchurch, Lawrence Kimberley, and the city's Mayor, Lianne Dalziel.
The installation was performed by the Archbishop of Aotearoa New Zealand and Bishop of
Taranaki, Philip Richardson, and the Bishop of Waikato, Helen-Ann Hartley. During the service the
new dean preached an uplifting sermon.
