From 25th September, the proceeds from the Taranaki Cathedral Community Café on Tuesday mornings will be given to the World Vision appeal for Rohingya Refugees.
Over 420,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to Bangladesh since August 2017. After escaping from violence in their villages in Myanmar, they are arriving traumatised, exhausted and hungry. Most have walked for days through jungles and across mountains, rivers and vast rice fields to reach safety.
World Vision teams are on the ground in Bangladesh - they are aiming to feed 15,000 people for two months, and they are working to expand relief efforts in the coming weeks to cover more needs for a longer period of time.
The Rohingya are a predominantly muslim ethnic group who, despite having dwelt in the area which is now northern Myanmar since the 8th century, are denied citizenship by the Myanmar government.
