Carrie's Drama Group

A good friend of mine (Shakespeare) once said,
‘All the world’s a stage...’ so here at CDG (Carrie’s Drama Group) we’re going to take that literally and take every opportunity we can to act, sing and dance!

Carrie’s Drama Group entered stage right with appropriate dramatic flair just a few short months ago, and already we’re discovering some incredible talent! The group is made up of up to 19 young people between the ages of 7 and 17. Since our performance of Joseph the group has grown by a few more! We meet each week and enjoy afternoon tea together as well as playing a few drama games as our warm-up.

Most recent news: on the 14th and 15th of September, we performed Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ - a fantastic musical re-telling of a well known Bible story! It was an amazing couple of nights filled with laughter and just-about controlled chaos! Thank you to all who supported us through the rehearsals and for those who were able to make it for the performances themselves... it was awesome to see the hall so packed. What an encouragement for our cast! Thank you!

I was so proud of all the young people, they were amazing (as anyone who saw the show would agree). Not just with the singing/dancing, but with the props too! I lost count of how many desert scrub bushes we made. We are now pros at re-purposing core-flu signs! I think Weta Workshop would be impressed.

After the school holidays we will start to think about our Christmas performance. I know... it’s too soon to be thinking about Christmas yet. Not in show-business, darlings!

CDG is a place where all can join in, learn new skills and make new friends. In everything, we aim to show others the love of Jesus and bring the Bible alive in new ways and to honour Carrie’s awesome life in a way that we know she would have delighted in.

The group meets on a Thursday afternoon,
4pm-5:30pm in the Peace Lounge,
and is led by Anne-Marie,
Suzy and Ailsa. If you’d like to join or want more information, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at the Cathedral: (06) 758-3111.
