Announcement from our Bishops
Bishop Waitohiariki and Bishop Philip Richardson
Te Pīhopa o te Ūpoko o te Ika
and the Bishop of Waikato and Taranaki
It was formally announced on Sunday 23rd February, 2020 that Jacqui Paterson and Jay Ruka have been appointed as joint Deans of Taranaki Cathedral.
Jacqui will also serve as Archdeacon of Parininihi and Jay will also serve as the establishment Director of the Paul Reeves Education Centre.
Jacqui is currently serving as Chaplain to Tainui Rest Home, New Plymouth. She has previously served as Chaplain at Waikato Diocesan School; Chaplain at Taranaki Diocesan School; Vicar of Holy Trinity, Fitzroy and Archdeacon of Parininihi; Vicar of Ashburton and Archdeacon of Mid-Canterbury; Vicar of Lincoln.
Jay Ruka (Te Ati Awa, Ngati Mutunga, Ngati Koata, Nga Puhi) has worked in full time Christian ministry since his early twenties, as a youth mentor, mission director and church minister. He is currently employed as a story-teller, producing resources and speaking itinerantly. He is the author of Huia Come Home.
The new Deans will be Instituted on Saturday April 4th at 11am by Bishop Waitohiariki, Te Pihopa o te Upoko o te Ika and Archbishop Philip Richardson, Bishop of Waikato and Taranaki. The preacher will be Te Pihopa o Aotearoa, the Most Reverend Don Tamihere.
