At the conclusion of the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols on 19th December, Archbishop Philip Richardson issued a License to Archdeacon Trevor Harrison as Acting Dean of Taranaki Cathedral. Until now, Harrison has been designated Priest in Charge of the Cathedral, alongside his other roles as Vicar General of the diocese (deputy to the Bishop in his absence) and Archdeacon of Waitotara. Archbishop Philip has today announced the establishment of the Bishop's Commission to consider options for Episcopal Leadership in the Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki. Taranaki Cathedral’s array of ornate stained glass windows is the inspiration behind a fundraiser for the restoration of the historic church. Bakers from the Taranaki Cathedral congregation have been busy making Cathedral Cakes to help raise money to earthquake strengthen the cathedral and redevelop the site.
