William and Hannah Milner owned a small farm in Belper, Derbyshire. They sold up and emigrated with their family to New Zealand in the 1850s. There were two sons, Thomas and William, and two daughters, Hannah and Emma. Both sons moved to Nelson in the late 1850s, where Thomas ran a drapery store. Emma Married Capt. Charles Stapp in 1859.
